Payson Hiking: Gila County Trail

Hike Gila County Trail

The Gila County Trail is not a loop - if you hike the whole trail, you will need to prepare in advance by parking one car at the Peach Orchard Loop Trail and driving a second car to the beginning of this trail. Technically this trail connects to the Peach Orchard Loop Trail .

The Gila County trail can get HOT when it is warmer in Payson because it starts descending off the mountaintop of Payson and down into the brush areas. There is a lot of wildlife around here and you will feel like you are out in the wild - yet you are still pretty close to the south western part of Payson. Don't go near dark, as coyote packs roam around these parts!

How to Get There:
From town: Turn right (west) on Green Valley Parkway, which is the first light from the south when you enter Payson Town limits (opposite the Mazatzal Casino). Head 0.2 miles to the west until the road ends and the trailhead sign will be on your right, adjacent to a small parking area. The trail will be to the south of the parking area.

Distance: 3.7 Miles
Time: 2 Hours
Difficulty: Moderate
